Notices for 14 October 2018

The churches in PE4 are hoping to hold a week of prayer and activities near to PENTECOST MAY 2019.  We have been invited to put forward the names of two lay representatives from Brookside who will help in the planning of this.  This is a wonderful opportunity for united fellowship and witness. If you are willing and able and to represent Brookside in this venture please speak to Revd. Langley or one of our stewards.

WORD ALIVE  Everyone welcome to join us, on (generally) the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 7.30pm in the lounge. Our next meeting is on Wednesday 17th October when we will look at the Messianic Psalm. Prior to each meeting at about 6.50pm there is an intercessory prayer meeting for 25 minutes to which all are welcome. Word Alive follows at 7.30pm with a cup of tea when we begin our Bible study.

COFFEE IN OCTOBER The ladies of the Craft and Chat group will be serving coffee after morning worship through the month of October. The money raised will be given to "CLIC Sargent". This is a small charity that supports young people with cancer.  CLIC Sargent will also be the charity that will benefit from the sale of greetings cards this month and in November~ please take time to browse through the boxes which are kept near the piano. If you would like to order personalised Christmas cards for someone special ~ now is the time to do it.

Christmas is coming - yes as the nights draw in and the weather gets colder our thoughts turn to the Festive season! Our annual CANDLELIGHT CAROL SERVICE will be taking place on 23rd December at 6.30pm. The Stewards would like to invite everyone who wishes to be a part of planning this special service to a meeting on Tuesday 6th November at 7.30pm in the lounge. Bring all your ideas with you or let us know about them beforehand if you are unable to come. We look forward to seeing you there. Janet, George, Sue and Cathy

Poem for Refugees
by Brian Bilston
*Read carefully and entirely

They have no need of our help
So do not tell me
These haggard faces could belong to you and me
Should life have dealt a different hand

We need to see them for who they really are
Chancers and scroungers
Layabouts and loungers

With bombs up their sleeves

Cut-throats and thieves
They are not
Welcome here

We should make them
Go back to where they come from
They cannot
Share our food
Share our homes

Share our countries
Instead let us
Build a wall to keep them out

It is not okay to say

These are people just like us
A place should only belong to those who are born there
Do not be so stupid to think that

The world can be looked at another way.

now read this from bottom to top - one line at a time
